Resident Advisor Volunteering Program
- Program Overview
The Resident Advisor (RA) Volunteering Program at Soka International School Malaysia (SISM) is designed to invite passionate individuals from around the world to contribute meaningfully to the development and well-being of our boarding students. The program supports SISM’s mission to nurture global citizens through a safe, inclusive, and enriching residential life experience.
We invite two volunteers per month (one male and one female) to join the boarding house as Resident Advisors. This opportunity is ideal for those who are passionate about youth engagement, intercultural learning, and student development.
- Program Objectives
- To enrich the residential experience of boarders aged 11–17 by providing guidance, mentorship, and engaging activities.
- To foster a multicultural and value-creating dormitory culture.
- To offer volunteers a platform to share their expertise and develop professional skills in a diverse educational setting.
- Volunteer Commitment
- Minimum Duration: 1 month (renewable upon evaluation)
- Position Availability: 1 Male RA + 1 Female RA per month
- Location: SISM Boarding House
- Support Provided:
- Free accommodation
- Daily meals
- Certificate of participation upon successful completion
- Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be aged between 20 and 45 years old
- Be fluent in English (fluency in Korean or Japanese is an added advantage)
- Have a strong passion for engaging with students aged 11–17 from various national, religious, and cultural backgrounds
- Possess relevant skills or experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Youth leadership
- Social-emotional learning (SEL)
- STEM education
- Arts and creativity
- Sports and wellness
- Cultural exchange and communication
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and a strong commitment to child safeguarding
- Roles & Responsibilities
Resident Advisors are expected to:
- Engage with boarders daily to support their emotional, social, and academic well-being
- Inspire and mentor students by modelling positive values and intercultural understanding
- Plan and conduct meaningful workshops, activities, or events aligned with students’ interests and school values
- Support the Boarding House team in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and vibrant dormitory environment
- Application Process
Interested candidates must submit:
- A completed application form
- Updated resume or CV
- A short statement of purpose outlining motivation and relevant experience
- A proposal for a sample activity or workshop they could offer to boarders
- A referral letter from university lecturer, school teacher or former employer
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview and background screening in accordance with SISM’s safeguarding policies.
- Program Coordination
The program will be jointly coordinated by the HR Department and the Boarding House Management Team. Monthly reviews will be conducted to ensure alignment with boarding goals and to evaluate volunteer contributions.
